Conference Objectives:
With the advent of high performance computers and new technologies in computation and experiment, research on strongly nonlinear hydrodynamics is currently attracting much attention and a large amount of work is being carried out. For example, in naval architecture and ocean engineering, slamming, green-water impact on deck, sloshing etc. are typical examples of strongly nonlinear phenomena of engineering importance, and great advances in these fields can be expected. The Research Institute for Applied Mechanics (RIAM) of Kyushu University has been organizing over the last few years a series of RIAM Symposia on strongly nonlinear flows around moving boundaries, in which researchers from various disciplines, such as mechanical, nuclear, civil, aeronautical, and ocean engineering, are exchanging information on recent developments. As an extension from this RIAM Symposium, the International Conference on Violent Flows (VF-2007) will be held in Fukuoka in November 2007. The organizing committee hopes that the VF-2007 Conference will provide a good forum for discussing the latest achievements and stimulating further progress in research on strongly nonlinear hydrodynamics.

Topics:
Technical papers containing new and original ideas and achievements in various disciplines associated with violent flows are invited. The topics of concern in the Conference are such as:
